From 27 January 2025, the United States (US) refugee resettlement program has been suspended. This means that:
- Refugees who were supposed to arrive in the US after this date, will not be able to go until the suspension is over.
- Refugees who have been referred to the US for resettlement will not receive a decision on their resettlement case.
This affects both refugees who have been referred to the US for resettlement by UNHCR, and those who are sponsored through the Welcome Corps.
The refugee resettlement program is one of many different parts of the US government which will be reviewed by the new president and his administration.
CAP does not have any further information at the moment, and we cannot provide advice on specific cases related to this suspension. When the situation changes, we will post updates here.
